Mulled wine, also called vin chaud in France, glühwein in Germany or Glögg in Sweden, is a very ancient European tradition. It seems that variations of this drink were already prepared in Ancient Rome.
Mulled wine is a drink basically made of wine, sugar or honey, oranges and spices. it is consumed especially during Christmas times, when it is cold. This drink is usually associated with the month of December and can be found in many Christmas markets for example.
In Frrrutiz, we propose to prolong a little the festive atmosphere of Christmas and prepare a good, mulled wine. With the cold wave these days, we are sure it can be very appreciated.
This recipe is very easy to make, and we recommend using dried fruits instead of fresh fruits to avoid diluting the drink. You'll see that the taste is more intense.
Ingredients:
-75cl of red wine
-100g cane sugar (can be replaced with honey or maple syrup)
-3 or 4 slices of dried orange
-3 or 4 slices of dried lemon
-3 or 4 slices of dehydrated mandarin
-Optional: 3 or 4 slices of dried pear
-Optional: 3 or 4 slices of dried apple
-A cinnamon stick
-2- or 3 pieces of star anise
-some juniper berries
-some cardamom pods
-5-7 cloves
How to prepare it?
Pour the wine into a pot, add the sugar, the dried fruits and botanicals.
Bring the temperature of the mixture to 80 degrees. it is very important that the wine does not boil.
When the first bubbles appear, remove from the heat, cover and wait about 3-4 minutes.
That's it!
Enjoy!
